An important subject in fixed point theory is the existence of common fixed point of two mappings. Usually results on the existence of common fixed point are proved under the hypothesis of commutativity, weak commutativity, etc., of the maps. In this paper, the authors introduce the notion of Banach operators pair: the ordered pair \((f,g)\) of two self-maps \(f\) and \(g\) of a metric space \(X\) is called a \textit{Banach operator pair} if the set \(F(g)\) of fixed points of \(g\) is \(f\)-invariant, namely, \(f(F(g))\subset F(g)\). They prove the existence of a common fixed point for a Banach operator pair and study the relationship of this notion with the notion of commuting, weakly commuting, etc., mappings. In the last section, the results are applied to the problem of best approximation.
