The monograph is devoted to theoretical foundations of spectral methods for fatigue life determination and their numerical realization. The book is divided into seven chapters. The first introductory chapter describes the contents of the book. Ch. 2 includes an overview of existing results, covering the spectral methods for determination of fatigue life by focusing on random Gaussian and non-Gaussian loading, in particular taking into account a multiaxial case. A principal chapter of the book (Ch. 3) is devoted to theoretical fundamentals of spectral methods for fatigue life determination. After an introduction to stress-strain states, the authors present criteria for multiaxial fatigue failure determination in frequency domain. The assumptions and techniques for the derivation of spectral formulae, including some fatigue characteristics, are stated. Various hypotheses about fatigue damage accumulation by derivation of fatigue life formula in accordance with Palmgren-Miner, Haibach, Corten-Dolan and Serensen-Kogayev hypotheses are considered. The brief Ch. 4 presents the algorithm of spectral method for evaluation of fatigue life under multiaxial random loading. A simple calculation model is postulated to determine the fatigue life of a specific material in a plane stress state. Ch. 5 is devoted to numerical simulations and contains a comparison between algorithms of determination of fatigue life by means of cycle counting method and the spectral one. In particular, the authors carry out a comparison between the particular algorithm blocks, such as the computed equivalent values and the determined critical plane positions. Ch. 6 presents experimental stands and a fatigue testing of 18G2A steel with a combination of bending with torsion under random loading. A spectral formula is obtained for determination of fatigue life on the base of the Serensen-Kogayev linear damage accumulation hypothesis, and the computed results are compared with experimental data. The final Ch. 7 presents the main conclusions for the presented investigations. In total, this book may be useful for students and engineers of the corresponding specialities.
