    In 1979 L. Carlitz introduced the degenerate Stirling numbers \(\overline{s}(n,j| \lambda)\) by means of \[ \left(\frac{1-(1-x)^\lambda}{\lambda}\right)^j=j!\sum_{n=j}^\infty\overline{s}(n,j| \lambda)\frac{x^n}{n!}. \] In the note under review the authors obtain some explicit formulas for higher degenerate Bernoulli numbers using potential polynomials and exponential Bell polynomials. Furthermore, they discuss some applications of their theorem for degenerate Genocchi or tangent numbers, Euler polynomials and other degenerate numbers.
