Poisson wavelets on the sphere (Q2384706)

The paper describes the construction of a continuous wavelet analysis on the sphere in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) using so-called Poisson wavelets. These wavelets of degree \(d\) are defined by an absolutely convergent series and they are rotational symmetric. For \(d=0\) the wavelet coincides with the Poisson kernel which solves the interior and exterior Dirichlet problem (on the sphere) with given boundary data. Formulas to compute the wavelets numerically without summing series of spherical harmonics are also given. The reproducing kernel of the wavelets can be computed using Poisson wavelets of higher degree.
