The bifurcation of small-amplitude limit cycles of a cubic system, which is symmetric with respect to the origin, is investigated. By the computations of the focal values, the authors construct the Poincaré function and prove that such a system has twelve limit cycles. For the first time, a similar result was presented in the paper of \textit{P. Yu} and \textit{M. Han} [Commun. Pure Appl. Anal. 3, No. 3, 515--525 (2004; Zbl 1085.34028)]. But the authors argue that the results in this paper are more concise and that the proof for the existence of limit cycles is algebraic and symbolic.
