Let \(R\) be a commutative \(k\)-algebra, and \(D\) a Lie algebra of derivations of \(R\). Let \(T(D)\) be the rooted tree whose non-root nodes are labeled by elements of \(D\). The vector space \(k\{T(D)\}\) with basis \(T(D)\) has a bialgebra structure, given by the authors [J. Algebra 126, No. 1, 184-210 (1989; Zbl 0717.16029)] and recalled in the paper under review, in which they define a connection as a map from \(D\times D\) to \(D\) satisfying well-known conditions. They show how a connection on \(D=\text{Der}(R)\) can be used to construct a \(k\{T(D)\}\)-module algebra structure on \(R\). This differential algebra structure is called a Leibniz structure (we do not give the technical definition here). The authors relate their construction to the \(R/k\)-bialgebras of \textit{W. Nichols} and \textit{B. Weisfeiler} [Am. J. Math. 104, 943-1003 (1982; Zbl 0552.14010)]. The authors also discuss quotients of Leibniz \(k\{T(D)\}\)-module algebras.
