Let \(X\) be a connected smooth projective curve defined over an algebraically closed field \(k\) of positive characteristic. Let \(G\) be a connected simple linear algebraic group defined over \(k\). Fix a proper parabolic subgroup \(P\subset G\) and an anti-dominant character \(\lambda\) of \(P\). A line bundle \(L\) is separably numerically effective if for every smooth projective curve \(C\) and a morphism \(f: C \to E_G/P\) with \(\phi\circ f\) separable (\(\phi:E_G/P \to X\) natural projection), one has degree \(f^*(L) \geq 0\). The authors prove that if \(E_G\) is a semistable \(G\)-bundle over \(X\), then the line bundle \(L=E_G(\lambda)\) on \(E_G/P\) associated to \(\lambda\) is separably numerically effective. By constructing examples in case \(G=\text{PGL}(N)\), it is shown that the converse of this statement is not true. The authors had previously proved that \(E_G\) is strongly semistable (i.e. the pull-backs of \(E_G\) by all powers of the Frobenius are semistable) if and only if \(E_G(\lambda)\) is numerically effective [Bull. Sci. Math. 128, 761--773 (2004; Zbl 1068.14037)].
