Let \(A\) be an ordered algebra with a unit \(e\), \(A_e\) the ordered ideal generated by \(e\), and \(A^+\) the cone of \(A\). The class of order continuous elements in \(A\) is introduced and studied. It is shown that \(A_e\) can be embedded into a dense subalgebra of the real algebra \(C(M)\) of continuous functions on some compact space \(M\). In the case when \(A_e\) is Dedekind complete, this embedding is onto. Moreover, when \(A\) is an ordered Banach algebra with normal cone \(A^+\), then \(A_e\) is closed in \(A\). In addition, the notion of an orthomorphism in order algebras is introduced. Conditions under which orthomorphisms are order continuous are given. Ordered \(C^*\)-algebras and the algebra \(B(H)\) (of bounded operators on an ordered Hilbert space \(H\) with self-adjoint cone \(H^+\)) are considered separately. Among other results, it is shown that every regular operator in \(B(H)\) is order continuous.
