This book discusses modeling, adaptive discretization techniques and numerical solutions of fluid-structure interaction problems. The emphasis in Part 1 lies on innovative discretization and advanced interface resolution techniques. The extended arbitrary Lagrange-Euler (ALE) method is proposed together with the quadratic isoparametric finite elements for a more accurate representation of the fluid-structure interfaces. The second part covers the efficient numerical solution of fluid-structure interaction problems. Thermal fluid-structure interaction processes are discussed, and some recent results on robust monolithic fluid-structure interaction solvers are presented. In Part 3, recent advances in the application of vascular flows, binary-fluid-solid interaction, and coupling to fractures in the solid part are presented. The book ends with a description of the fluid-solid interaction based on a diffuse-interface model for the binary fluid and a hyperelastic-material model for the solid.
