The paper deals with discrete dynamical systems defined in nonempty, compact, metrizable spaces by the action of a continuous self-map. In this setting the limit point set of each trajectory is called the omega-limit set. To characterize this set is a very difficult problem. In the present paper the authors consider the problem of studying when a compact metric space can be realized as the omega-limit set of a discrete dynamical system. Note that this problem is equivalent to see when the space admits a chain transitive homeomorphism. The authors present solutions to this problem in terms of different conditions on the connected component of the space. Moreover, they present the construction of some spaces were all homeomorphisms are chain transitive.
