The authors study the PDE \[ -\Delta u=\beta(x)|u|^{p-1-\varepsilon}u, \] for \(x\in\Omega\), where \(\Omega\) is a smooth bounded subset of \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\), where \(n\) is restricted to \(3\leq n\leq 6\). In the above PDE the number \(p\) is defined by \(p:=\frac{n+2}{n-2}\). (It should be noted that even though the space dimension is highly restricted, the authors suggest in the paper that this is merely a technical restriction that, with a finer analysis, might possibly be obviated.) In addition, the solution, \(u\), of the above PDE is required to satisfy the boundary condition \[ u=0,\;x\in\partial\Omega. \] The majority of the paper is then devoted to studying the qualitative properties of both sign-changing and positive solutions to the above boundary value problem. While the analysis is quite technical, the paper is detailed and well-written, and it may be of interest to researchers interested in elliptic PDEs.
