A group \(G\) has finite section \(p\)-rank for the given prime \(p\) if every elementary abelian \(p\)-section of \(G\) has rank at most \(r_{p}(G)=r\) and this bound is indeed attained. If there is no such \(r\) for the given prime \(p\), then \(G\) is said to have infinite section \(p\) rank. If there exists a prime \(p\) such that the group \(G\) has infinite section \(p\)-rank, then \(G\) has infinite section rank. A group \(G\) has finite special rank \(\operatorname{rk}(G)=r\) if every finitely generated subgroup can be generated by at most \(r\)-elements and \(r\) is the smallest natural number with this property. If there is no such \(r\), the group \(G\) has infinite special rank. In the paper under review, the authors investigate the structure of the locally finite groups of infinite rank whose proper subgroups of infinite rank satisfy some generalizations of permutability. First let us define these generalizations: Definition. Let \(G\) be a periodic group. A subgroup \(H\) of \(G\) is called semipermutable if \(H\) permutes with every subgroup \(K\) such that \(\pi(H)\cap \pi(K)=\emptyset\). Definition. A subgroup \(H\) of a periodic group \(G\) is called \(S\)-semipermutable if \(H\) permutes with every Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of \(G\) with \(p \notin \pi(H)\). The authors prove the following very interesting results. Theorem. (Theorem 3) Let \(G\) be a locally finite group of infinite rank whose subgroups of infinite rank permute with every Sylow subgroup \(P\) of \(G\). Then, \(G\) is locally nilpotent. Theorem. (Theorem 11) Let \(G\) be a locally finite group with infinite special rank whose subgroups of infinite rank are semipermutable. Then every subgroup is semipermutable. Theorem. (Theorem 13) Let \(G\) be a locally finite group of infinite rank satisfying \(\min\)-\(p\) for every prime \(p\). If every subgroup of infinite rank of \(G\) is \(S\)-semipermutable, then all subgroups of \(G\) are semipermutable. However, a generalization of Theorem 11 for \(S\)-semipermutable subgroups is not possible since the authors also constructed an example of a periodic metabelian group with infinite rank whose subgroups of infinite rank are \(S\)-semipermutable but not every subgroup is \(S\)-semipermutable.
