Given a sequence $x=(x_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ of complex numbers, denote by $C(x)$ the sequence $(n^{-1}\sum_{k=1}^nx_k)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ of its Cesàro means. For $1<p<\infty$, the Cesàro sequence space $\mathrm{ces}(p)$ is defined as the space of all sequences $x=(x_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ such that $C(|x|)\in \ell^p$, where $|x|:=(|x_n|)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$. The space $\mathrm{ces}(p)$ is endowed with the norm $\|x\|_{\mathrm{ces}(p)}:=\|C(|x|)\|_p$, where $\|\cdot\|_p$ is the usual norm in $\ell^p$. Given $p,q\in (1,\infty)$, a sequence $a=(a_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ in $\mathbb{C}$ is called a $(p,q)$-multiplier if $ax:=(a_nx_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}\in \mathrm{ces}(q)$ for each $x=(x_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}\in \mathrm{ces}(p)$. In that case, the operator $M_{p,q}^a:\mathrm{ces}(p) \rightarrow \mathrm{ces}(q)$ with $M_{p,q}^a(x):=ax$ is automatically continuous. The authors provide a complete characterisation of those multipliers $a$ for which $M_{p,q}^a$ is compact. They also study the mean ergodicity/uniform mean ergodicity of the multiplier operators in the case $p=q$. Furthermore, among other results, the authors also show that the Cesàro operator $C$ maps $\mathrm{ces}(p)$ into $\mathrm{ces}(q)$ if and only if $p\leq q$, that this operator is compact if and only if $p<q$ and that $C$ as an operator from $\mathrm{ces}(p)$ into itself is not mean ergodic.
