Quantum maximum-distance-separable (MDS) codes are an important class of quantum codes. In this paper the authors mainly use classical Hermitian self-orthogonal generalized Reed-Solomon codes (with elements from the finite field \(\mathbb{F}_q\)) to construct three classes of new quantum MDS codes: for even integer \(q\), for \(q \equiv 1\pmod{4}\), and for \(q \equiv 3\pmod{4}\). Further, these new quantum MDS codes have large minimum distance and short length.
