This paper is devoted to a study of the ordinary differential equation \(y' = p(x) y^2 + q(x) y^3\) where \(x\) and \(y\) are complex variables and \(p\) and \(q\) are polynomial functions. The unique solution to the resulting initial value problem under the condition \(y(a) = y_a\) exists on a neighborhood of \(a\) in \({\mathbb C}\) and is an analytic function of \(x\). For \(b \in {\mathbb C}\) and a path \(s\) from \(a\) to \(b\), if the solution can be continued from \(a\) to \(b\) along \(s\), then a Poincaré map \(\varphi\) is defined, taking the value of the solution at \(a\) to its value at \(b\). The map \(\varphi\) can depend on both \(s\) and the continuation (which could have singularities) along \(s\). The authors study the global analytic properties of such a map \(\varphi\). Linearization at \((x,y) = (0, \infty)\) leads to the model system \(y' = y^2 + cxy^3\), which is examined in detail.
