The author shows that some necessary conditions for (infinitesimal) extremality of Beltrami differentials of a hyperbolic Riemann surface provided by \textit{H. Zhu} and \textit{J. Chen} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 273, No. 2, 283--293 (2002; Zbl 1137.30315)] are in fact sufficient.
