Let \(X\) be a complex projective variety and \(a_X:X\to A\cong H^0(X,\Omega ^1_X)/H^1(X,\mathbb Z)^\vee\) be its Albanese morphism. We say that \(X\) has maximal Albanese dimension if \(\dim X=\dim a_X(X)\). The Iitaka fibration of \(X\) is a birational model of the map \(f:X\dasharrow I(X) \subset \mathbb P H^0(X,\omega _X^{\otimes m})\) induced by the space of pluricanonical forms \(H^0(X,\omega _X^{\otimes m})\) for any integer \(m>0\) sufficiently divisible. In this paper the author proves two main results on the Iitaka fibration of varieties of maximal Albanese dimension: 1) If \(f:X\to Y\) is a generically finite map of smooth varieties, \(Y\) has maximal Albanese dimension and \(P_m(X)=P_m(Y)\) for some \(m\geq 2\), then the induced map of Iitaka models \(I(X)\dasharrow I(Y)\) is birational (a similar result had previously appeared in [\textit{C. D. Hacon}, J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 67, No. 2, 337--348 (2003; Zbl 1058.14020)]). 2) If \(X\) is a smooth variety of maximal Albanese dimension, then \(H^0(X,\omega _X^{\otimes 5})\) induces the Iitaka fibration \(X\dasharrow I(X)\).
