The starting point is a letter of H. A. Schwarz from January 28, 1884, where he criticizes one of Jacob Steiner's proofs for the isoperimetric problem in the plane. The author gives useful facts for H. A. Schwarz, Jacob Steiner, Karl Weierstrass, Carl Friedrich Geiser and Edward Rudolf Neovius related with this problem.
