The author shows the following theorem. Let \(A\) and \(B\) be uniform algebras, \(\alpha\in \mathbb C \setminus \{0\}\), \(m,n\in \mathbb N\), and \(T\) a surjection from \(A_0\) onto \(B_0\) with \[ \|(Tf)^m (Tg)^n-\alpha\|=\|f^mg^n-\alpha\| \] for all \(f,g\in A_0\), where \(A_0\) and \(B_0\) are subgroups of \(A^{-1}\) and \(B^{-1}\) containing \(\exp A\) and \(\exp B\), respectively. Then there exist a real-algebra isomorphism \(\tilde T: A\to B\), a clopen set \(K\) of \(M(B)\) and a homeomorphism \(\phi: M(B)\to M(A)\) such that \[ \widehat{\tilde Tf}=\begin{cases} \hat f\circ \phi &\text{on \(K\)},\\ \overline{\hat f\circ \phi}& \text{on \(M(B)\setminus K\)}, \end{cases} \] for every \(f\in A\) and \((\tilde Tf)^s= (Tf)^s/(T1)^s\) for every \(f\in A_0\), where \(s\) is the gcd of \(m\) and \(n\).
