The authors provide a formula for the computation of the index of a real analytic vector field which has a reduced hypersurface of complex zeros. In addition, an implementation of the formulas (both for the index in the algebraically and non-algebraically isolated cases) is described. The implementation is performed in \texttt{Singular} (see [\textit{W. Decker}, \textit{G.-M. Greuel}, \textit{G. Pfister} and \textit{H. Schonemann}, Singular 3-1-1. A computer algebra system for polynomial computations (2010), \url{http://www.singular.uni-kl.de}]) in the library phindex-lib.
