Let \(X\) be an infinite-dimensional complex Banach space. The paper under review considers a surjective additive map \(\Phi\) from \(B(X)\) onto itself that preserves the similarity of operators in both directions (that is, \(T\) and \(S\) are similar if and only if \(\Phi(S)\) and \(\Phi(T)\) are similar). The main result states that there exist a nonzero scalar \(c\), a linear or conjugate linear bounded invertible operator \(A:X\to X\) (or \(A:X^*\to X\)), and an additive functional \(\phi\) on \(B(X)\) such that \(\Phi(T) = cATA^{-1} + \phi(T)I\) for all \(T\in B(X)\) (or \(\Phi(T) = cAT^*A^{-1} + \phi(T)I\) for all \(T\in B(X)\)). Moreover, \(\phi =0\) if \(X\) is of infinite multiplicity.
