Considered is the Cauchy problem for weakly hyperbolic equations in \((0,T]\times\mathbb R^n\), having time dependent coefficients. The purpose of the article is to investigate the order of regularity loss. This is done by considering an energy estimation inequality depending on an associate positive monotonically increasing function which further depends on the variable coefficient \(a(t)\) in the equation. In an earlier paper of one of the authors, [\textit{F. Hirosawa}, Math. Nachr. 283, No. 12, 1771--1794 (2010; Zbl 1231.35111)], succeeds to prove an energy estimation and the existence and form of the associate function, under some very special assumptions for \(a(t)\). In the present article a similar energy estimation is proved in case the additional conditions on the coefficient \(a(t)\) involve an extention of one inequality in the previous paper, which the authors define as being an estimate in an ultradifferentiable class.
