The paper is related to the geometric theory of analytic functions. It presents very interesting results obtained using the new effective method of multivalent prestarlike functions. This method was introduced by the author in the paper [``Applications of multivalent prestarlike functions'', Appl. Math. Comput. 221, 230--238 (2013)]. Let \({\mathcal{A}}\) denote the class of functions which are analytic in \({\mathcal{U}}:=\{z\in \mathbb{C}:\left| {z}\right| <1\}\) with normalization \(f\left( 0\right) =1\). We say that \(f\in {\mathcal{A}}\) is ``subordinate'' to \(F\in {\mathcal{A}}\), and we write \(f\prec F\), if there exists a function \(\omega \in {\mathcal{A}}\) with \(\left| {\omega (z)}\right| \leq \left| z\right|\) (\( z\in \mathcal U\)) such that \(f(z)=F(\omega (z))\) (\( z\in \mathcal U\)). Let \(\mu \geq 0\) and let \(h\in {\mathcal{A}}\) be a function which is univalent in \({\mathcal{U}}\) such that \(h({\mathcal{U}})\) is a convex domain. In the first step the author introduces the interesting class of functions \({ \mathcal{K}}_{\mu }\left( h\right) \) defined by \[ {\mathcal{K}}_{\mu }\left( h\right) :=\big\{ \mu q_{1}+\left( 1-\mu \right) q_{2}:q_{1},q_{2}\prec h\big\} \] and gives some characterizations of this class of functions. In particular, this class is related to the class of real-valued functions of bounded variation and also to the class associated with functions of bounded boundary rotation. These classes of functions were intensively investigated by many mathematicians. Next, using the class \({\mathcal{K}}_{\mu }\left( h\right) \), the author defines classes of multivalent analytic functions and derives important convolution properties related to multivalent prestarlike functions. The method of multivalent prestarlike functions gives interesting results which cannot be obtained using the standard method of differential subordination. Therefore, the obtained results generalize and improve essentially a lot of results obtained in earlier works.
