Let \(F\) be a field of characteristic 0. A key step in the structure theory of T-ideals of ordinary polynomial identities of associative \(F\)-algebras developed by Kemer in the 1980's is that for every finitely generated PI-algebra there exists a finite dimensional algebra with the same polynomial identities. Recently this result was extended by the author for algebras graded by a finite abelian group [\textit{I. Sviridova}, Commun. Algebra 39, No. 9, 3462-3490 (2011; Zbl 1237.16022)] and by \textit{E. Aljadeff} and \textit{A. Kanel-Belov} [Adv. Math. 225, No. 5, 2391-2428 (2010; Zbl 1206.16014)] for algebras graded by any finite group. In the paper under review the author shows the following important result which extends the result of Kemer to other algebras with additional structure. For any finitely generated associative PI-algebra with involution over \(F\) there exists a finite dimensional algebra with involution which satisfies the same \(*\)-polynomial identities. As in the case of group graded algebras, the methods and techniques are an adaptation of the methods of Kemer, with necessary modifications for the case of involution.
