A definition of volume \(\mu\) associates to each \(n\)-dimensional normed space \((V,\|\cdot\|)\) a norm on \(\Lambda^n V\). Given \(\mu\) there is an induced density \(\mu_{n-1}\) which may be integrated over \((n-1)\)-dimensional submanifolds in \(V\): for \(K\subset V\) compact and convex, \(A_{\mu}(K)=\int_{\partial K}{ \mu_{n-1}}\) is the \((n-1)\)-dimensional surface area of \(K\). The definition of volume \(\mu\) is convex if for \(K\subset L\) convex bodies \(A_{\mu}(K)\leq A_{\mu}(L)\). Some well known examples of convex definitions of volume are the Busemann volume and the Holmes-Thompson volume. Let \(V\) be an \(n\)-dimensional normed space with unit ball \(B\) and \(\mu\) a convex definition of volume. It is known that there exists a unique centrally symmetric convex body \(I_{\mu}B\) such that for any convex body \(K\) \[ A_{\mu}(K)=nV(K[n-1],I_{\mu}B). \] \(I_{\mu}\) is called the isoperimetrix and was introduced by Busemann, who showed that among all convex bodies of a given, fixed volume, a homothet of the isoperimetrix has minimal surface area. This paper is mainly devoted to the introduction and study of the dual isoperimetrix. As a consequence the author solves the isoperimetric problem in the dual Brunn-Minkowski theory. It is also shown that the dual isoperimetrix is related to the isoperimetrix from the Brunn-Minkowski theory. More precisely, the author proves that given a definition of volume \(\mu\) in an \(n\)-dimensional normed space with unit ball \(B\), there exists a star body \(\tilde{I}_{\mu}B\) which allows to express the surface area of any star body \(S\) with respect to \(\mu\) as a dual mixed volume of \(n-1\) times \(S\) and \(\tilde{I}_{\mu}B\). Furthermore, among all star bodies of a given volume, a dilate of the dual isoperimetrix has maximal surface area and if the dual definition of volume is convex, there is a polarity relation between the isoperimetrix and the dual isoperimetrix.
