The authors study viscous shock waves \(u=\phi(x-st)\) of a system \(u_t+f(u)_x=u_{xx}\) of viscous conservation laws. These shock waves are supposed to connect states on different sides of inflection hypersurface corresponding to some characteristic family. It is shown that such shock waves are spectrally stable if their amplitude is sufficiently small. The proof is based on the technique of Evans functions and geometric singular perturbation theory.
