In this paper the authors discuss three closely related phenomena in the theory of Riemann surfaces. More specifically, they find solutions to the following three problems. - First the authors consider under what conditions the ``moments'', certain integrals associated with certain non-constant meromorphic functions on the surface, vanish. - Motivated by the first result the authors go on to discuss the conditions under which so-called `polynomial Abelian integrals' vanish. - Finally, the authors apply the above results to the problem of the vanishing of a certain class of hyperelliptic Abelian integerals. The proofs make frequent reference back to [\textit{F. Pakovich} and \textit{M. Muzychuk}, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 99, No. 3, 633--657 (2009; Zbl 1177.30046)].
