Let \(M\) be a complex manifold of dimension \(n\geq3\). A closed strictly positive \((n-1,n-1)\)-form \(\Omega\) on \(M\) is called an \((n-1)\)-Kähler form. It is well known that in this case \(\Omega=\omega^{n-1}\) where \(\omega\) is a strictly positive \((1,1)\)-form on \(M\), and the associated Hermitian metric is called balanced. It is shown in this paper that a real \((n-1,n-1)\)-form \(\Omega\) on \(M\) is an \((n-1)\)-Kähler form if and only if near each point \(p\in M\) there exist holomorphic coordinates \((w_1,\dots,w_n)\) centered at \(p\) such that \[ \Omega=\frac{i^{(n-1)^2}}{2^{n-1}}\;\sum_{j,k=1}^n\Omega_{jk}\,\widehat{dw_j}\wedge\widehat{d\overline w_k}\;, \] where \(\Omega_{jk}(0)=\delta_{jk}\), \(\omega_{jk}(w)\) does not contain linear terms involving \(w_j\), \(w_k\), \(\overline w_j\), \(\overline w_k\), and \(d(\text{trace}\,\Omega_{jk})(0)=0\).
