Let \(G\) be the real special linear group \(\mathrm{SL}(n,{\mathbb R})\) and \(N\) the standard maximal unipotent subgroup of \(G\) consisting of upper triangular matrices. The group of rotations \(\mathrm{SO}(n)\) is a maximal compact subgroup \(K\) in \(\mathrm{SL}(n,{\mathbb R})\). Denote by \({\mathfrak g}_{\mathbb C}\) the complexified Lie algebra of \(G\). Fix a non-degenerate unitary character \(\eta\) of \(N\). The space of smooth vectors of the induced representation \(\text{Ind}_N^G\eta\) is the right-\(G\)-module \(C^\infty_\eta(N\backslash G)\) of smooth sections of the homogeneous bundle over \(N\backslash G\) induced by \(\eta\). Let \(P\) be the subgroup of the upper triangular matrices in \(G\), then \(P\) is a minimal parabolic subgroup with Langlands decomposition \(P=MAN\) where \(A\) is the abelian subgroup of \(G\) of diagonal matrices with positive entries; and \(M\) is the subgroup of \(G\) of diagonal matrices with entries equal to \(\pm 1\). The characters \(\sigma_I\) of \(M\) are parametrised by \textit{colors} \(I\) as follows. If \(h\) is a positive integer such that \(1\leq h\leq n\) and \(I=\{i_1;i_2;\cdots;i_h\}\) such that \(1\leq i_1< i_2<\cdots< i_h\leq n\), then \(\sigma_I\) is defined as: \[ \sigma_I(m)=\Pi_{i\in I}m_i \] where \(m=\text{diag}(m_1,\cdots;m_n)\in M\). On the other hand, a character \(\nu\) of \(A\) is identified with an \(n\)-tuple of complex numbers \((\nu_1,\cdots,\nu_n)\) satisfying \(\sum_j\nu_j=0\). Write \(\rho\) for half the sum of (standard) positive restricted roots. The induced representation \(\text{Ind}_P^G\big(\sigma_I\otimes \exp(\nu+\rho)\otimes 1_N\big)\) is the principal series representation \(\pi_{I,\nu}\) of \(G\) associated with \(\sigma_I\) and \(\nu\). For a non-zero vector \(v\) in \(\pi_{I,\nu}\) and a non-zero intertwiner \(\Phi\in\Hom_{({\mathfrak g}_{\mathbb C},K)}(\pi_{I,\nu},C^{\infty}_{\eta}(N\backslash G))\), the function \(\Phi(v)\) is called \textit{Whittaker function}. In the paper under review, the authors give an explicit formula which explicitly describes \(\Phi(v)\) when the vectors \(v\) belong to the minimal \(K\)-types of \(\pi_{I,\nu}\). These results extend the cases of \(n=3\) and \(n=4\), obtained previously by the authors.
