The author deals with the problem of smoothing Lipschitz spacelike surfaces with fixed boundary. Sets that obstruct the existence of smooth nontimelike extensions with fixed boundary are specified. An example of a Lipschitz nontimelike surface for which there is no similar smooth surface is constructed.
