The authors study Ext-projectives in triangulated categories. Let \(\mathcal H\) be a hereditary abelian \(k\)-category with tilting object, where \(k\) is a algebraically closed field. The first main result states that the indecomposable Ext-projective objects in a suspended subcategory \(\mathcal U\) of \(\text{D}^b(\mathcal H)\) form an exceptional sequence so that their number (up to isomorphism) is bounded by the rank of the Grothendieck group \(K_0(\mathcal H)\). The second result characterizes complexes \(M\in\text{D}^b(\mathcal H)\) with \(\text{Hom}(M,M[i])=0\) for \(i>0\) and leads to a ``deconstruction of aisles'' with some analogy to \textit{I. Assem} and \textit{O. Kerner}'s construction of torsion pairs [J. Algebra 185, No. 1, 19--41 (1996; Zbl 0863.16023)]. If \(\mathcal U\) is a suspended subcategory of \(\text{D}^b(\mathcal H)\) and \(M\) indecomposable and Ext-projective in \(\mathcal U\), then \(\mathcal U\) can be written as \(\mathcal U_M\ast (\mathcal U\cap\mathcal B_M^\perp)\). Here \(\mathcal U_M\) respectively \(\mathcal B_M\) denotes is the suspended (triangulated) subcategory generated by \(M\), while the operation \(\ast\) is that of \textit{A. A. Beilinson, J. Bernstein} and \textit{P. Deligne} [``Faisceaux pervers'', Astérisque 100 (1982; Zbl 0536.14011)]. As an application, left supported algebras in the sense of \textit{I. Assem, F. U. Coelho} and \textit{S. Trepode} [J. Algebra 281, No. 2, 518--534 (2004; Zbl 1078.16007)] are characterized in terms of aisles.
