The autohrs present new conjugacy criteria for second order linear difference equations of the form \[ \Delta(r_k \Delta x_k) + q_kx_{k+1} = 0 \quad (k \in \mathbb Z) \] when \((r_k),(q_k)\) are real-valued sequences with \(r_k \neq 0.\) They extend to this class of difference equations the concept of phase of any basis introduced by \textit{O. Boruvka} for second order ordinary differential equations [Linear differential transformations of the second order. (1971; Zbl 0222.34002), p. 38]. Using this approach, they state and prove several sufficient conditions for the conjugacy in \([M,N]\) and in \(\mathbb Z.\)
