Decompositions of Cauchy polynomials \[ p_n(x,y):= (x+ y)^{2n+1}- x^{2n+1}- y^{2n+1},\quad n\in\mathbb N \] and Ferrers-Jackson polynomials \[ q_n(x, y):= (x+ y)^{2n}+ x^{2n}+ y^{2n},\quad n\in\mathbb N \] and polynomials of the form \(x^{2n}+ y^{2n}\), \(n\in\mathbb N\) are given. These decompositions are used to generate identities for powers of Fibonacci and Lucas numbers as well as for powers of numbers in some other recurrence sequences.
