The author studies limits of automorphisms. He shows that any algebraic automorphism of \(\mathbb{C}^n\) can be approximated at the origin and at any order by a tame one. In fact, the author proves the following theorems (we only mention two, to keep this summary short): Theorem A. If \(G\) is any group of algebraic automorphisms of \(\mathbb{C}^n\) which is strictly larger than the affine group, then any algebraic automorphism can be approximated at the origin and at any order by an element of \(G\). For the next theorem, we have to introduce some notations (which match the ones in the paper). Let \(J_n(E)\) be the monoid of \(n\)-jets at the origin of algebraic (or analytic) endomorphisms of \(\mathbb{C}^n\) fixing the origin. Write GL for the linear group. If \(K\subseteq \mathbb{N}\), write \(A_K\) for the algebraic automorphisms of \(\mathbb{C}^n\) which consist of sums of \(k\)-homogeneous endomorphisms where \(k\in K\). I.e. if \(F\in A_K\), then all coefficients of monomials in \(F\) of degree \(l\not \in K\) are zero. Denote by \(J_n(A):=\{f\in J_n(E) ~| ~ \text{Jac}(f)\in \mathbb{C}^*\}\). Denote by \(J_n(A_K)\) the subset of elements of \(J_n(A)\) which come from elements of \(A_K\). Theorem D. Any subgroup of \(J_n(A)\) containing GL is equal to some \(J_n(A_{1+S})\) where \(S\) is a submonoid of \(\mathbb{N}\).
