The linear reaction-diffusion system \[ \varepsilon(\partial_t +v_i\partial_x)p_i= \sum^n_{j=0}k_{ij}p_j, \quad (i=1,2,\dots,n) \] for \(x>0\), \(t>0\) coupled to a diffusion equation for \(p_0=p_0(x,y,\theta,t)\) with ``near-equilibrium'' initial and boundary data is considered. This problem arises in biology as a model of transport of neurofilaments along an axon of a neuron. Under some assumptions for the matrix \(k_{ij}\) the authors prove that as \(\varepsilon \to 0\) the profile of the solution travels at a constant velocity, but the front spreads so that is only approximately a traveling wave.
