Mathematical scattering theory of quantum mechanical systems was the subject of a book by \textit{P. Lax} and \textit{R. S. Phillips} (see Zbl 0186.16301) and also by \textit{H. Baumgärtel} and \textit{M. Wollenberg} in 1983 (see Zbl 0536.47007). In addition, Baumgärtel has published a number of related papers. The most recent one from 2004 deals with Lax-Phillips semigroups whereas the present paper concentrates on resonances, i.e.\ poles of the scattering matrix. For this the interplay between the positive energy projection and the Hardy space projection is important. Poles are then given by the discrete spectrum of a truncated evolution with Gamov eigenvectors. This suggests applying these results to quantum mechanical systems with embedded eigenvalues of the unperturbed Hamiltonian, e.g.\ Friedrichs models with special resonances, a term coined by Baumgärtel.
