Let \(H\) be a complex separable Hilbert space and \(T\) a bounded operator on \(H\). The present paper studies hypercyclicity properties of the conjugate operator \(C_{T}:S\mapsto TST^{*}\) acting on \(\mathcal{B}(H)\), or on some subspace of \(\mathcal{B}(H)\) such as the space \(S(H)\) of selfadjoint operators on \(H\), or the ideals \(K(H)\) and \(N(H)\) of compact or nuclear operators. It is shown, for instance, that if \(T\) satisfies the Hypercyclicity Criterion, then \(C_{T}\) is hypercyclic on \(S(H)\) endowed with the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets, i.e., there exists an \(S\in S(H)\) such that \(\{T^{n}ST^{*n}\mid n\geq 0\}\) is dense in \(S(H)\) for this topology. This result is applied to weighted backward shifts.
