Let \(M\) be an oriented closed manifold and let \(\Gamma = \pi_1(M)\) be its fundamental group. Let \(B\Gamma\) be the classifying space of \(\Gamma\). The integral Novikov conjecture for \(M\) is equivalent to the conjecture that the map \[ A : H_*(B\Gamma, \mathbb{L}^{\langle - \infty \rangle}(\mathbb{Z})) \to L_*^{\langle - \infty \rangle}(\mathbb{Z}\Gamma) \] is injective. In this very well-written paper the author proves that, if \(G\) is a reductive algebraic group of rank \(0\) over a global field \(k\) and \(\Gamma\) a torsion-free \(S\)-arithmetic subgroup, the integral Novikov conjecture in both \(K\)- and \(L\)-theories holds for \(\Gamma\). Furthermore, the author observes that, if a discrete group \(\Gamma\) acts properly and cocompactly on a complete Riemannian manifold of non-positive curvature, then the generalized integral Novikov conjecture in both \(K\)- and \(L\)-theories holds for \(\Gamma\). The author obtains his results by applying a criterion by [\textit{D. Rosenthal}, \(K\)-Theory 32, No. 2, 139--166 (2004; Zbl 1068.19008); Forum Math. 18, No. 2, 193--209 (2006; Zbl 1115.18006)].
