    The authors establish the existence of \(a^* > 0\) such that for all \(a \in (0,a^*)\), the following semilinear elliptic problem has a positive solution \[ -\Delta u - bu/| x| ^2 = (u| u| ^{2^*(s)-2})/| x| ^s + af(x,u),\quad x \in \Omega\backslash\{0\}, \] \[ u(x)=0,\qquad x \in \partial\Omega, \] where \(\Omega\) is an open bounded domain in \(\mathbb R^N\) (\(N \geq 3\)), \(0 \leq b < ((N-2/2)^2\), \(0 \leq s <2\), and \(2^*(s)\) is the Hardy-Sobolev critical exponent, and \(f\) is continuous, superlinear at the origin, and has a subcritical growth at infinity. The proof relies on Ekeland's variational principle. Moreover, if \(f\) is nondecreasing with respect to the second variable, the Mountain Pass Theorem applied to a translated functional used to deduce the existence of a second positive solution.
