Let \(D\) be an integral domain. The (semi)star operations \(d\), \(t\), and \(v\) are of course defined on any domain and hence on both \(D\) and \(D[X] \). This raises the question of whether given a general semistar operation \( \star \) on \(D\),\ is there a ``natural'' extension of \(\star \) to a semistar operation on \(D[X]\)? In the case of a finite character stable (i.e., \( (E\cap F)^{\star }=E^{\star }\cap F^{\star }\)) semistar operation\(\star \) on \(D\), the authors given such a natural extension to a finite character stable semistar operation \([\star ]\) on \(D[X]\). \ Moreover, it is shown that \(D\) is a Prüfer \(\star \)-multiplication (resp., \(\star \)-noetherian, \(\star \) -Dedekind) domain if and only if \(D[X]\) is a Prüfer \([\star ]\) -multiplication (resp., \([\star ]\)-noetherian, \([\star ]\)-Dedekind) domain. Briefly, a finite character stable semistar operation on \(D\) is determined by a set of prime ideals of \(D\), so it suffices to determine a set of prime ideals of \(D[X]\) to define \([\star ]\) on \(D[X]\).
