This paper offers a systematic study of spectral synthesis in \(A(G)\)-submodules of \(VN(G)\), that is, submodules of the von Neumann algebra generated by the regular representation of a locally compact group \(G\), with the Fourier algebra \(A(G) \) of \(G\) as ring of scalars. The authors first extend the concept of set of \(X\)-synthesis introduced by \textit{E. Kaniuth} and \textit{A. T. Lau} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 129, No.~11, 3253--3263 (2001; Zbl 0976.43002)] for \(A(G)\)-submodules of \(VN(G)\) to general \(\mathcal{A}\)-submodules of the dual Banach space \(\mathcal{A}^\ast\) of a general commutative, semisimple, regular Banach algebra \(\mathcal{A}\). If \(X\) is such a submodule, a subset \(E\subset \Delta(\mathcal{A})\), the spectrum of \(\mathcal{A}\), is a set of \(X\)-synthesis provided \(\langle T,u\rangle=0\) for all \(T\in X\) with \(\text{supp}: T\subset E\) and all \(u\in \mathcal{A}\) such that \(\widehat{u}_{| _E}=0\). Results of \textit{B. Forrest} [Rocky Mt. J. Math. 28, No.~1, 173--190 (1998; Zbl 0922.43007)], of Kaniuth and Lau [loc. cit.], and of \textit{N. Spronk} and \textit{L. Turowska} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 66, No.~2, 361--376 (2002; Zbl 1015.43007)] are then extended to this more general class of sets of synthesis. The basic common feature of these results is that they all involve the relations between sets of \(X\)-spectral synthesis for \(A(G)\)-submodules of \(VN(G)\) with sets of \(X\)-spectral synthesis for related submodules over different algebras. The authors thus offer a unified point of view to relate \(X\)-spectral synthesis in \(A(G)\) to spectral synthesis in \(A(H)\), when \(H\) is a closed subgroup of \(G\), to spectral synthesis in \(A(G/K)\), when \(K\) is a compact subgroup of \(G\), and to spectral synthesis in \(V(G)\), the Varopoulos algebra of \(G\) (defined as the Haagerup tensor product \(C(G)\otimes C(G)\), \(G\) is assumed to be compact in this case).
