The main result of the paper is the following. Let \(K\) be field such that all Sylow subgroups of its absolute Galois group are infinite. Let \(X\) be a smooth and irreducible variety over \(K\) with function field \(F\). Let \(E/F\) be a finite separable extension and let \(Y\) be the normalization of \(X\) in \(E/F\). If there exists a closed point of \(X\) which does not split completely in \(Y\to X\), then the set of these points in Zariski dense in \(X\). This result generalizes Theorem 7.1 (1) of \textit{S. Saito} [J. Number Theory 21, 44--80 (1985; Zbl 0599.14008)], where \(K\) is a local field and \(\dim X = 1\). The hypotheses of the theorem are satisfied, in particular, when \(K\) is an Hilbertian field.
