The paper deals with the following Dirichlet problem for singular elliptic equations \[ -\Delta u -\mu{u\over {| x| ^2}}=\lambda u + Q(x)| u| ^{2^*-2}u \;\text{ in }\Omega, \qquad u=0 \;\text{ on }\partial\Omega, \] where \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^N,\) \(N\geq4,\) is a bounded and smooth domain containing the origin, \(2^*=2N/(N-2)\) and \(Q(x)\) is a positive bounded function over \(\overline\Omega,\) while \(\lambda>0\) and \(0\leq\mu<\left({{N-2}\over 2}\right)^2.\) Assuming \(Q(x)\) is quadratic near \(0\) and subquadratic with respect to \(| x-a_i| \) near the final number of points \(\{a_i\}_{i=1}^k\) of strict local maxima, the author proves existence of nontrivial \(H^1_0(\Omega)\) solutions for any \(\lambda>0,\) and multiple positive solutions when \(\lambda,\mu>0\) are small enough.
