In the paper, the authors study the existence of positive solutions of the singular semilinear elliptic problem \[ (P_{\lambda})\qquad \begin{cases} -\text{ div}(| x| ^{\beta}\nabla u)=| x| ^{\alpha}| u| ^{p(\beta,\alpha)-2}u+\lambda a(x)| u| ^{q-2}u x\in {\mathbb R}^{N},\\ u\in D^{1,2}_{\beta}({\mathbb R}^{N}),\end{cases} \] via variational methods, for \(N\geq 3\) and \(\lambda>0\). Here \(p(s,t):={2(N+t)\over N+s-2}\) denotes the critical Sobolev-Hardy exponent [see \textit{L. Caffarelli, R. Kohn, L. Nirenberg}, Compos. Math. 53, 259--275 (1984; Zbl 0563.46024)] and \(D^{1,2}_{t}({\mathbb R}^{N})\) is the closure of \(C^{\infty}_{0}({\mathbb R}^{N})\) with respect to the norm \(\| \cdot\| -{t}=(\int_{{\mathbb R}^N}| x| ^{t}| \nabla\cdot| ^{2}dx)^{1/2}\). The authors consider parameters \(\beta\), \(\alpha\), \(\sigma\) such that \[ 2-N<\beta \leq 0,\quad \sigma>\beta-2,\quad \alpha>\beta-2,\quad \beta\geq\max\{ {2\alpha\over p(\beta,\alpha)}, {2\sigma\over p(\beta,\sigma)}\} \] and then they require that \(1<q<\min\{ p(\beta,\alpha), p(\beta,\sigma)\}\) and that the function \(a\in C({\mathbb R}^{N})\) verifies \[ a(0)>0\quad\text{ and }\quad | x| ^{-{q\sigma\over p(\beta,\sigma)}}a^{+}\in L^{p(\beta,\sigma)\over p(\beta,\sigma)-q}({\mathbb R}^{N}). \] In the paper the following theorem is proved. Theorem. Assume that the above conditions hold true. {\parindent7mm \begin{itemize} \item[(1)]If one of the following property is fulfilled: \begin{itemize} \item[(i)]\(q<\min\{ 2,{N\over N+\beta-2}\}\), \item[(ii)]\(q=2\) and \(N=4-2\beta\), \item[(iii)]\(N>4-2\beta\) and \(\max\{ 1,{N\over N+\beta-2}\}<q<2,\) \item[(iv)]\(a(x)\geq 0\) and \(q\leq 2\), \end{itemize} \item{}then there exists \(\lambda_{*}>0\) such that the problem \((P_{\lambda})\) has a non trivial solution for \(\lambda<\lambda_{*}\). \item[(2)]If one of the following property is fulfilled: \begin{itemize} \item[(v)]\(N>\max\{ 2-\alpha-\beta, 2-\sigma-\beta\}\) and \(q>\max\{ 2,{N\over N+\beta-2}, {4-2\beta\over N+\beta-2}\}\), \item[(vi)]\(a(x)\geq 0\) and \(q\leq 2\), \end{itemize} \item{}then problem \((P_{\lambda})\) has a non trivial solution for any \(\lambda>0\). \end{itemize}}
