Extensions, Levi subgroups and character formulas. (Q2474476)

Let \(G\) be a connected reductive group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(p\). The main theme of this paper is to study the effect on an Ext group \(\text{Ext}^i(M,N)\) (or a highest weight category) of restriction from \(G\) to a Levi subgroup \(L\) of a parabolic subgroup. Cases of interest occur when \(M,N\) are simple, or one of them is standard (or costandard). There are many examples and asides. It is known that the conjecture of Lusztig on characters of irreducible \(G\)-modules can be expressed in terms of restriction to \(L\). The authors elaborate on this connection. For the case \(G=\text{GL}_n\) the conjecture is further translated into a problem in the modular representation theory of symmetric groups.
