Consider the boundary value problem for the equation \[ -u''+q(x)u=\lambda u \] on \([a,\xi_1)\cup(\xi_1,\xi_2)\cup(\xi_2,b]\) with a simple boundary condition at \(x=a\), with four transmission conditions at the points of discontinuities \(\xi_1\) and \(\xi_2\) (of the type \(\gamma u(\xi_1-0)-\delta u(\xi_1+0)=0\)) and with an eigenparameter-dependent boundary condition at \(x=b\). Here, \(q\) is a given real-valued function, continuous on \([a,\xi_1)\cup(\xi_1,\xi_2)\cup(\xi_2,b]\) and having finite one-sided limits at \(\xi_1\) and \(\xi_2\), and \(\lambda\) is a complex parameter. Eigenfunctions for this problem may have discontinuities. The problem is given in an operator-theoretic formulation and asymptotic formulae of the first order for its eigenvalues and eigenfunctions are obtained.
