Let \(E= \text{ind\,}E_n\) be an LB-space and \(F\) a Fréchet space, both continuously included into a Hausdorff \(\text{tvs\,}H\), from which setting one canonically obtains the short exact sequence \[ 0\to E\cap F@>i>> E\times F@>+>> E+ F\to 0, \] where \(E+ F\) provided with the corresponding quotient topology is an LF-space. On \(E\cap F\) there are two natural topologies: the intersection topology \(s\) and the inductive topology \(t\) defined by \((E\cap F,t):= \text{ind\,}E_n\cap F\). The authors investigate the coincidence of \(s\) and \(t\). They prove (among other things): {\parindent=4mm \begin{itemize}\item[--] Under certain natural assumptions on \(E= \text{ind\,} E_n\) one has \(s= t\) if and only if \((E\cap F,s)\) is barrelled (and/or bornological), and the equality \(s= t\) implies the completeness of \(E+ F\). \item[--] A rather deep example shows that \(E+ F\) can be complete and at the same time even \((E\cap F),s)'\neq (E\cap F,t)'\) (or \((E\cap F,s)\) not being barrelled). \item[--] Under various additional assumptions on \(E\) (and \(F\)) they characterize when the LF-space \(E+ F\) satisfies condition \((M_0)\) of Retakh. \end{itemize}} The importance of these results in applications to partial differential operators is pointed out.
