The authors consider, for centrally symmetric bodies in an \(n\)-dimensional Banach space, various questions about the relationship between the inradii of sections and diameters of projections. Inequalities are established for projections of arbitrary rank and sections of any small enough dimension. ``Small enough'' depends upon the projection rank \((n-k)\), how far from spherical the body is, and the dimension \(n\) of the space; the upper bound is of order \(k\log n\). For bodies in \(C_0\)-isomorphic \(\ell\)-position (defined in the paper) the range of dimensions may be extended. These results are used to prove the existence of mixing operators satisfying certain bounds. Unfortunately, some of the bibliographic references in the text refer to works by abbreviations different from those used in the reference list at the end; but the reader should be able to sort this out.
