For a given convex body \(K\) in \(\mathbb R^3\) with \(C^2\) boundary, let \(P_n^c\) be the circumscribed polytope of minimal volume with at most \(n\) edges, and let \(P_n^i\) be the inscribed polytope of maximal volume with at most \(n\) edges. Asymptotic formulae for the volume difference as \(n\) tends to \(\infty\) are presented. It is demonstrated that the typical faces of \(P_n^c\) and \(P_n^i\) are asymptotically regular triangles and squares, respectively, in some suitable sense.
