The study and classification of varieties having given curve sections is quite classical in algebraic geometry and it has been generalized in many ways. In this paper the authors take into consideration the triplets \((X,{\mathcal E},H)\), where \(X\) is a smooth projective variety, \({\mathcal E}\) is an ample vector bundle of rank \(r\geq 2\) on \(X\) possessing a global section whose zero set \(Z\) is smooth and \(H\) is an ample line bundle on \(X\) such that \(H_Z\) is very ample. The aim is to classify such triplets when \((Z,H_Z)\) has a smooth bielliptic curve of genus \(\geq 3\) and \(H^{n-r}c_r({\mathcal E}) \leq 8\). It turns out that the only possibility is that \(X\) is a Fano manifold with \(\text{Pic} (X) = \mathbb{Z}<H>\), \(K_X + \det {\mathcal E} + (n-r-2)H = {\mathcal O}_X\) and \(H^{n-r}c_r({\mathcal E})= 4,6\) or \(8\). The first step in the proof is to refine the known classification of varieties of \(\dim \geq 3\) with \(\deg \leq 8\) which possess a bielliptic curve section. This leaves only five possible cases for \((X,{\mathcal E},H)\); one case is fairly easy to rule out, while to rule out the last one is the hardest work in the paper. The three remaining cases (which are shown to actually occur) give the Fano varieties described above.
